As an engineering professional, I have spent years observing the consultancy industry, curious about its future and how it must evolve to meet New Zealand’s needs. The traditional model - rigid, costly, and slow to adapt - often fuels inflation, driving up costs for clients, developers, councils, and ultimately, communities.

At VARA, we’re breaking that cycle. We’re building a new kind of consultancy - one that’s lean, efficient, and inclusive. Our model combines smart teams of students, graduates, experienced engineers, and chartered professionals, supported by systems that cut unnecessary overheads. This allows us to deliver high-quality work at realistic costs, without passing bloated fees to our clients.

But VARA is about more than cost-efficiency. We’re addressing New Zealand’s engineering talent shortage by mentoring young graduates and students, grouping them by skill level and providing hands-on experience. This not only ensures exceptional project outcomes but also develops future leaders who will drive the industry forward.
